Published by the International Organization for Standardization, the guide is formally defined as ISO/IEC 27001: 2005 – Information Technology – Security Techniques – Information security management systems – Requirements. According to the official documentation, “…the objective of the standard is to provide a model for establishing, implementing, operating, reviewing, maintaining and improving an Information Security Management System…” Among other key measures, to earn the certification a company must prove to a certified independent auditor that it has a systematic and ongoing approach to managing sensitive client information.
